claims could violate international law and the action he's taking. >> i'm tori campbell. the fbi wrapped up a news conference where new information was revealed in a series of unsolved murders from the 1970s. there's a link in a case to one in nevada. live in redwood city to see what's been uncovered. good afternoon, janine >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. these cold cases involve 6 young women who were killed in the '70s. sources tell ktvu that recent dna evidence came back linking a murder case in reno to one or more cases here in the bay area and that's what's prompting the fbi to start a new task force to reopen all the cases. the fbi along with several police departments from the peninsula announce they're performing the gypsy hill task force. they believe one person is responsible for a series of murders that happened 38 years. five young women in the bay area were stabbed to death in a four month time span from january to april of 1976. two of the victims were killed in pacifica, one in mil bray and two in daly city. they were known as the gypsy hill murder because that's where

fbi is scheduled to give an update and this may reopen a horrific bay area murder case. ktvu's palm cook is in the newsroom -- pam cook to tell us what happened. >> they were often called the san mateo killings. five women stabbed to death in a four-month snap 1976. two were killed in pacifica, one in millbrae and two in daily city. one victim, veronica ann ka see owe, was just 18 years old. he was last seen waiting for a bus. her body was found in pacifica and she had been raped and stabbed 32 times. in an interview only on 2, one of her friends tell us family and friends never gave up hope that her killer would be found. >> i am glad that the case is not dead, you know. i am glad that people are remembering ronnie and the other women that were killed. >> now, she was the first in a series of young women stabbed to death in the same rough area. now the fbi is set to make an amountains. today. it is expected to be the organization of a new task force in this case. the fbi could also talk about new leads in the 38-year-old case and word of a possible connection to a murder in reno. w

, the fbi will announce an update on the decades old cases. ktvu talked to a friend of the first victim. >> veronica ann casio, a name and face forgotten, but certainly not to her family and friends. barbara patton was 18 years old, when she read the story in the local paper. it was january, 1976. >> it was really shocking. it was horrific. the details were there. she was stabbed 32 times and raped, and left on a golf course. >> casio was last seen waiting for a bus. the next day her body was found in pacifica less than a quarter mile away. she was the first in a series of murders. young women stabbed to death. >> it was a short period of time, and it was all kind of around this area. >> five women were stabbed to death in a four month time span from january to april of 1976. two of the victims were killed in pacifica. known by some as the san mateo killings. others called them the gypsy hill murders. gypsy hill in pacifica was where the second victim was found. the fbi is expected to announce possible leads in reno. >> i'm glad the case is not over. >> reporter: i talked to casio's bro
